Any company surviving 25 years in the instrument
business deserves some serious respect, especially
when that company has to find its own path to success
among the colossal, mass-manufacture companies
that dominate the guitar and bass landscape of today.
British Bass Guitar Magazine - April 2010 Esh Various & Stinger II
These Esh beauties are head-turners in the visual
department, but are they just as pleasing on the ear or will
they empty your wallet and leave you with a broken heart?
Mike Brooks takes up the invitation.
Adam Duce is the bassist for Machine Head (Oakland, California, formed in 1992). They are one of the pioneering bands in Thrash Metal.
The band's first album, Burn My Eyes, was a big success in Europe where it garnered attention on MTV's Headbangers Ball, but in America Machine Head would not have have success until later albums. The band nearly disbanded in 2002 after negotiating off of its label, Roadrunner Records, when controversy surrounding Machine Head's 4th release "Supercharger" (released 2 weeks after Sept.11th, 2001) resulted in their songs and their then-current video for the song "Crashing Around You' (which featured burning buildings) being pulled from all media outlets. The band re-signed with Roadrunner soon after and has released two triumphant albums since, 2003's "Through the Ashes of Empires", and 2007's The Blackening, which earned Machine Head its first Grammy Award nomination.

Sovereign 5
The 5 String Sovereign sent for review is a real Esh-Classic. This model was one of the most successful bass guitars from the early years of esh, and last but not least, was responsible for the huge success of the company during their "fist phase".
Conclusion:
This modern bass-classic is made very well. Handling and Playability is like the older Esh basses; very good.
Category Sound:
In this category the Sovereign gets full points. Superb sound!

New Esh Endorser
Jay-Tee Teterissa
(www.jay-tee.nl) is a Dutch Bass Player with moluccan origin. He is a sought-after bass man, who played with people such as Mike Stern, Jan Akkerman, Candy Dulfer, Tom Bowes & Nick Milo (Tower of Power).
His latest project THE NAT BEAT has his roots in a recording studio, where he met Beata Kossowska, one of the world’s best Blues Harp players, called “The first Lady of Blues Harp” ( www.beata-kossowska.com).
Together with two Moluccan friends (drums and guitar) and Beata they play a Super-Power-Fusion-Funk, which easily can be compared with the best bands in this genre.
Jay Tee’s style of playing is strictly dedicated to the ears and legs of the audience, without any temptation of playing only flashy bass licks and tricks, but powerful melodic bass style, full with unique flageolets, precise as the Big Ben.
Jay Tee is playing a SOUVEREIGN 5 string bass from esh .

DUO EXTREMO
New Top-of-the-line bass-model from esh proudly announces a new Endorser:
Kay Lutter from the leading German medieval band
IN EXTREMO ( http://www.inextremo.de ) plays this stunning new design from the traditional German bass brand esh:
His Poseidon comes in an exclusive LAVA-finishing.
Individuality and design: that's what counts for them both! At the moment the band is touring in Europe with their new album "Sängerkrieg".
Together, them both, esh and In-Extremo are always far beyond the mainstream. Individuality instead of boring copies, this is what unites them, and grants the long-term success for both of them, the leading medieval-rock band and one of the oldest German High-End Bass producers.
Due to the extreme flexibility of his esh bass, Kay (a.k.a DIE LUTTER) is able to deliver in any situation the powerful sound which is needed, -- quiet a challenge, if you know their style!
Kay plays now for more than a decade esh basses, and is overwhelmed by the stunning design of the newest development of esh basses.
Esh basses are so popular because of the pure "Made in Germany" high-end concept and the extreme flexibility provided by the esh-Tronic and the very special Piezo System.
Esh in a short:
esh basses , one of the first finest Made in Germany bass-company, founded 1986 by the German bass player Peter Sonntag. Christof Kost -- the famous German custom shop bass luthier- worked for more than a decade as the master luthier of esh. Nowadays he still is consulting with his knowledge, and esh uses his patented U/C Bolt-On Neck Construction.
Features:
All instruments are having active pick ups,
AND ALL basses are Piezo-equipped. Our Piezo - one per EACH string - deliver one of the best sounding Piezo you can get.
It is sounding really incredible! Together with a studio direct out, we provide the professional player with a very flexible and powerful tone.
